Nose Bleeds

 

  

  1. Avoid strenuous activity.
    • No lifting.
    • No bending over - bend knees instead.
    • No straining in bathroom. Ask for a stool softener if indicated.
  2. Obtain and use a nasal salt water spray daily.
    • Follow instruction sheet.
  3. Obtain and use a nasal decongestant as follows:
    • 2 squirts to each nostril in the morning and at night for three days.
    • 2 squirts to each nostril in the morning only for the next three days.
  4. Apply an antibiotic ointment to inside of nose each night until your follow-up visit. Use a humidifier or vaporizer in the bedroom.
  5. If bleeding occurs:
    • Blow blood out of your nose.
    • Use a nasal decongestant 12-hour spray.
    • Keep head up straight.
    • Squeeze soft part of nostrils together for 10-20 minutes.
    • If bleeding persists, repeat all steps. If no improvement, call our office or proceed to the emergency room.
